About Massimo

Massimo’s formal culinary education began both at home and at school in his native Florence, Italy at the age of fourteen. After completing culinary school, Massimo’s skill and reputation slowly began to flourish at some of the trendiest, upscale restaurants in Florence. Massimo first came to the U.S. while at Cibreo Ristorante, one of the most acclaimed spots in Florence, known for its American celebrity clientele.

At Cibreo, Massimo was picked  to represent “The Best of Italy” in the U.S.  It was only a short matter of time before Massimo was sought after to take over the kitchen, of a then new restaurant, Locanda Veneta in Los Angeles.  During his long tenure at Locanda Veneta, the restaurant was consistently rated one of the top 3 Italian restaurants in Southern California.

Massimo also met his wife Daniela at Locanda Veneta. They quickly became partners in all aspects of life, and  in January 2002 Massimo and Daniela opened Massimo Ristorante, a fine dining restaurant in Beverly Hills. During its 9 years of operation, the creativity, talent and consistency of Massimo’s cooking created a following of regular customers, including many celebrities.  Zagat Guide consistently rated Massimo Ristorante as one of the top 100 Italian restaurants in the United States and Massimo Ristorante  was selected as one of the top 50 restaurants by Los Angeles Magazine Restaurant Issue in 2008.

Ultimately, Massimo and Daniela wanted to create a new concept that matched their own more casual lifestyle after having their son, Alessandro.   Massimo decided to take his upscale cooking and create a menu in a casual space at an accessible price.

Through time, Massimo & Daniela joined forces with close family friend, Cyrus Deboo to find just the right space in their own neighborhood to house their new farm to table Tuscan cafe, Tuscan Son.

Our Story

Our name Tuscan Son reflects generations of my native Italian heritage. After the birth of our son, Alessandro, my wife, Daniela, and I began to dream of opening a different type of eatery from our upscale restaurant. Having trained and cooked in fine dining throughout my life at some of the most notable restaurants in Florence, Italy to ultimately having my own namesake in Beverly Hills; I yearned to take my passion and experience and create a casual, Italian, farm to table neighborhood spot where my friends, family, and local  food enthusiasts could enjoy my cooking at an accessible price.

And so, in December of 2017 the dream of Tuscan Son came to fruition in opening our doors with Daniela, 11 year old Alessandro and longtime family friend and partner Cyrus Deboo. With Cyrus’s expertise in design, we collaborated to create the perfect ambiance to showcase my food.  Our warm family team combined with my fresh Tuscan fare and bakery is what makes our place so special! We can’t wait to  welcome you to our Tuscan Son family!

buon appetito

-Massimo

Our Community & Commitment

At Tuscan Son, we are completely local. We live in our Tuscan Son neighborhood and participate and support our local schools, farmers markets, non profit organizations and nearby businesses. Even as a new business, we are fully committed to giving back to our community through fundraising and donations. We proudly consider all requests.

Tuscan Son cares not only about the quality of our food and products, but also about our carbon foot print. We use environmentally friendly compostable and recyclable containers for all of your take out orders. Also, our cups are plant-based and our green straws are fully compostable.

We are so committed that we even recycled our Chef from Italy:)
